Valley up for revamp

-

THE home of the Cox Plate is set for a revamp after the 100th running of the famous race.

The Moonee Valley track will be rebuilt and reoriented and a new grandstand will be constructed following the 2020 Group 1 event.

The plans are part of a $2 billion vision for the Moonee Valley Racing Club, which will also include apartments.

Money from the residential land sales will go towards funding the redevelopment. Following the rebuild, the MVRC wants to become an exclusive night-racing venue, which will include running the Cox Plate under lights.

The short home straight will be extended from 173m to 317m and widened to 30m.

The plans include moving the horse stalls to the centre of the course, while the infield will include sporting fields.
