Sach a promising talent at Albert

“AGGRESSIVE baseliner” Tai Sach only knows one way.

He has Junior Davis Cup selection and a Junior Australian Open in his sights but the Gold Coast Tennis League remains just as much a pressurised zone.

“He takes it serious, that’s for sure, but he is serious every time he hops on the court,” coach Roger Marquass said.

It’s that cutthroat attitude that has driven the Gold Coast Albert Tennis Club prodigy in 2017.

The 15-year-old looms as a strong contender for Junior Davis Cup selection to face Taiwan next month, adding another premium event to a schedule already packed with the Australian Championship.

Training at national academy in Brisbane for the past year, Sach this year claimed the under-14 national grass court title as well as making the quarters of an under-18 IGF grade four tournament.

The No.1 ranked Australian for his birth year has already helped drive his club in the open’s division of the Gold Coast Tennis League, which plays Round 4 on Sunday.

“It’s been a really significant year for him,” Marquass said.

“He is impressive to watch and he’s not someone who will just push a ball.

“In the GCTL I think he’s one of the better juniors. Last year we put him in the opens and a few people weren’t happy but after he won two out of three matches they were like ‘OK, he’s good to come in’.

“He’s been here at the club for years and I think he does it (plays in the GCTL) for the love of the club.”

Destined for more tournaments in Japan and New Zealand, Sach’s short-term ambition is to qualify for the Junior Australian Open.
