IF THE ALP wins the national power struggle for the government under Shorten, then all the ALP states will reinforce the renewable industry with a subsidised home battery storage for all of those with PV panels installed.
By doing this, they will expect the recipients of the subsidised batteries to supply input to the grid when required.
Just remember those wind turbines and solar PV panels will need replacing every 25 years or so, while modern fossil fuel power stations have and an expected economic lifespan of about 75 years.
All the political smoke and mirrors on renewables need exposure because the ALP and Greens are not telling us the truth. ROBERT S. BUICK MM JP
AN INCOMING MP takes an oath or affirmation of allegiance as prescribed in the Constitution, either swearing according to law and God, or affirming according to law.
They are proclaiming they are in compliance with Section 44 of the Australian Constitution and that their allegiance to the country is paramount. What is their situation when their first priority is to an ideology or religious belief?
In my understanding that is not in accordance with Section 44 (i.) of the Constitution and that should preclude anyone from becoming a member of parliament. GRAEME W. BREWER, BIGGERA WATERS
I STRONGLY believe the lake at Goldmarket Lane, Bundall, should neither be drained nor filled.
It is an important part of the “green within the gold” of the city.
It is a refuge for people as well as animals to enjoy, with more than 50 species of birds living there.
There are alternative parking and transportation solutions available. Do not destroy animals and their habitat.
I care nothing about horses and
racing. I care deeply about and speak for the environment. REGINA KIDD
WHAT a great article about scrub turkeys (GCB, 23/11).
The male is a beautiful bird but how annoying they are when making a home in someone’s backyard.
If only they could be trained to use their leaf-raking skills to advantage. Obviously Highland Park resident John Paul’s frustration boiled over as he sought ways to deter them messing up gardens.
So when he finally came up with the idea of using stuffed toys scattered in his yard, he hit the jackpot. Not one turkey to be seen. Stuffed if I know why … perhaps they’ve just heard it’s Thanksgiving time. KEN JOHNSTON
FOR some time I was the victim of a manic husband, with police locking him up only to be let out the next day to start all over again.
Today breaches of protection
and DVOs are a farce. If offenders have no fear of doing jail time, they will thumb their noses at the law.
Offenders should be arrested, locked up, charged with assault and held in custody until facing court and possible sentencing.
It must be treated seriously, with perpetrators facing a month’s jail for first offence then added time for further offences. This system works in the US – but here our magistrates are too soft. MARIAN GRIMMOND
I RANG John-Paul Langbroek’s office to ask where Surfers Paradise residents are to vote on Saturday.
His secretary said the only place is at the Isle of Capri School. I said I don’t have a car and there are four other couples (two are elderly) who don’t have cars either.
She said: “Well, you have to arrange postal voting. Ring the Electoral Commission.” This is all very inconvenient for older people. JAN BAILEY
