McEvoy filly fancied in clockwise test

-

PUNTERS think first starter Our Toninicconi is the one to beat in the $200,000 Magic Millions Clockwise Classic at Ballarat tomorrow.

Although unraced, the Tony McEvoy-trained filly has trialled at Ballarat in the clockwise direction.

Trackwatchers rated Our Toninicconi as the most impressive performer during jump-outs run in the clockwise direction at the Victorian country track on November 14.

The Nicconi filly, a $100,000 yearling purchase at the Adelaide Magic Millions sales, showed nice acceleration in the jump-out and was strong at the finish.

Adelaide two-year-old La Pomme de Pin is the $5.50 second favourite and has an experience advantage over Our Toninicconi ($3.80).

The Lloyd Kennewell-trained filly was a close second to subsequent Sandown feature winner Long Leaf on debut at Morphettville on October 28.

La Pomme de Pin has drawn barrier 13 but will move in four gates if the emergencies are scratched.

Regular stable hoop Joe Bowditch takes the ride on La Pomme de Pin, an $85,000 buy at this year’s Adelaide Magic Million Sale.

The only winner in the field is the Bjorn Baker-trained Countercurrent, who scored easily over 900m at Queanbeyan in country NSW on debut on November 13.

The Ballarat race aims to give southern state horses experience at racing in the clockwise direction as they trek towards securing a start in the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on January 13.
