EXPECT INFIGHTING AT LNP WHILE LABOR DELIVERS THE GOODS

-

I ALWAYS felt Labor was going to win. It was going to be a tough election because of One Nation and unlike (thenex-National leader) Rob Borbidge who said he would not deal with One Nation, LNP leader Tim Nicholls refused to rule it out and he’s paid a huge price.

A lot of people on the Gold Coast were uncomfortable at how LNP were willing to do a deal with One Nation particularly when Mr Borbidge refused to and it cost him government. Tim Nicholls tried to have it both ways and people saw through that.

We’re very confident we’ll win Gaven. Meaghan Scanlon is a great candidate. That’s her community where she grew up and sends a powerful message. I’m excited about having a friend and colleague on the Gold Coast.

It’s a Labor foothold. It might only be one seat but from my perspective Labor

Minister for Education, Tourism, Major Events and the Commonwealth Games will continue to deliver for the Coast. Obviously the M1 is a massive issue and we’ll continue to provide upgrades.

We would love to pick up two seats but even if we end up with Gaven it is another voice on the Gold Coast that will be part of Government and she will deliver for the Gold Coast.

It is a game changer to have somebody from the Gold Coast in the Government.

Georgi Leader in Currumbin has done an outstanding job – she always knew it would be tough to unseat LNP’s Jann Stuckey but this election was a down payment by Georgi to say Jann Stuckey is on notice. The great thing about Georgi is she’s always lived on the southern Gold Coast, she’s not going anywhere. She can take the seat in 2020.

What we have seen on the Gold Coast is a massive swing against the LNP. They are going to be doing a lot of soul

searching and I imagine in a few months there will be a lot of infighting between JohnPaul Langbroek, David Crisafulli and Tim Mander about who is going to be leader – while we are getting on with the job of delivering.

If you were an LNP federal member you would be very worried about the results in the Queensland election.

People can see Labor takes the Coast seriously. It’s such a vibrant part of our state and economic powerhouse. Any government would be foolish if it didn’t take the Coast seriously as a hub for growth.
