Hip hooray in Charr’s title

SEVEN months after a double hip replacement, Manuel Charr defeated Russian Alexander Ustinov by unanimous decision for the vacant WBA heavyweight title in Germany.

The judges awarded it 114-111, 116-111 and 115-112 in favour of Charr, who became the first German world heavyweight champion since Max Schmeling in the early 1930s.

The Lebanese-born Charr (31-4 with 17 KOs) was famously also shot in the stomach during an altercation at a kebab shop in 2015.
