- ALEXANDRIA UTTING CHIEF CRIME REPORTER

A MAN with a history of domestic violence has been nabbed by police after allegedly threatening to kill his partner at Nerang.

Police yesterday could have pre- vented another domestic violence tragedy unfolding on the Gold Coast, arresting a man seen driving streets away from his girlfriend’s house brandishing a rifle.

The 21-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, allegedly made threats to kill the woman and two people she lived with before driving from Upper Coomera to her Nerang home just after 10am yesterday.

The woman called triple-0 and a manhunt ensued, including cars, the dog squad and the police helicopter.

A police source told the Bulletin the man had called the Nerang woman and told her he was coming to “kill her”.

When the man arrived in Nerang and saw police were waiting for him at the woman’s home he allegedly fled the scene, waving the gun out the window.

During a police pursuit through Pacific Pines and Oxenford, which involved 12 cars, the man allegedly stopped and carjacked an 18-year-old P-plate driver and her 16-year-old male passenger at gunpoint.

Police say the 21-year-old pulled the driver from her vehicle on Guy Court before getting into the her gold Toyota Camry and driving off.

After being stung by police road spikes on the John Muntz Bridge at Oxenford, the man began fishtailing along four-lane Tamborine Oxenford Road before coming to rest on a footpath behind Bunnings at Oxenford about 11.30am.

Police allege the man’s offending began about 10am yesterday with a domestic violence incident at his Upper Coomera home.

A 67-year-old male neighbour attempted to disarm the man during the violent confrontation on Meadowbank Drv, but he fled the scene before officers arrived.

The 21-year-old man was last night charged with two counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle and fail to stop motor vehicle, and one count each of armed robbery, unlawful possession of weapons, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, driving unlicensed and going armed so as to cause fear.

He is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court later today.
