ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER TRAFFIC NIGHTMARE ON M1

- ANDREW POTTS

SOUTHBOUND lanes of the M1 became a car park just before 9am yesterday after three trucks collided near the on-ramp at Exit 41 in Yatala.

The initial collision was so violent one of the trucks rolled over, causing significant damage.

None of the truck drivers were injured and declined medical treatment.

Motorists were frustrated by a delay in clearing the road, which did not fully reopen until 11.15am. Jorge Damasceno on social media declared the M1 the “worst highway in the world”.

“The M1 should be cleared immediately once an accident occurs. Why does it take so long to clear an accident area? Ridiculous,” wrote Tina Barber on social media.

Yesterday’s accident was the second on the M1 to involve trucks in a matter of days after a horror collision at Helensvale in the early hours of Saturday morning which created 20km of gridlock.

In that crash two Bdouble trucks collided at around 1am on election day, shutting down parts of the M1 for six hours as drivers were diverted around the accident.
