Benny now talking up new breed of Poms

-

WAYNE Bennett says England do not fear the Kangaroos and every one of his players could make it in the NRL.

Bennett is plotting a World Cup boilover in Saturday’s final against Australia at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.

The Broncos coach played a key role in New Zealand’s stunning 2008 triumph over Australia and has now taken England to the final match of the tournament.

England have been given next to no chance of beating Australia and are rated $6.50 chances of upsetting the unbeaten Kangaroos.

But Bennett, a seven-time NRL premiership-winning coach, has an incredible knack of motivating teams and said England were not scared of the intimidating Kangaroos.

“I’m pleased for the guys – they’ve worked hard and the coaches back in England have followed some systems I’ve put in place,” he said.

“There’s a lot of talent in this team. To be honest, in my opinion, there is nobody in our squad that wouldn’t make it on a regular basis in Australia.

“(Jermaine) McGillvary and Kallum Watkins are tremendous players.

“They don’t fear playing Australia. There’s quite a few of the next generation who can be regular first-grade players in Australia.”

The final rivals met in the first match of the tournament in Melbourne and Australia was unconvincing in walking away with an 18-4 win.

On Sunday, Bennett said the Poms were virtually no hope of winning the final; all the pressure was on Meninga.

Bennett, 67, is regarded as a master at playing mind games and claimed he hadn’t watched Australia dominate their past four opponents.

“I don’t know, I haven’t watched them play,” he said when asked for his thoughts on the Kangaroos’ form.

“We have been in so many different time zones. Their game against Fiji (last Friday) started late in New Zealand so I didn’t even watch it.”
