Accused cop ‘didn’t break law’

-

A FORMER police officer who was accused of revealing the name of an informer has been cleared of all charges.

James Alexander Walker, 39, was visibly relieved when Judge David Kent ordered the charges be dismissed ahead of a trial in the Southport District Court.

Mr Walker was fighting back tears when he hugged and kissed his partner after the decision was made.

After a day of legal argument it was deemed there was not enough evidence to show Mr Walker had broken the law.

The court heard that while Mr Walker had revealed that an informer, identified only by a pseudonym, had been “dogging” on another person it was not specified to be in relation to drugs. Under Queensland law it is only illegal to reveal an informer in relation to drug offences.

It was also heard he had told Matthew Dangerfield he was being “dropped in it” but did not specify any further.

Because Mr Walker did not specify further, Mr Kent ruled he had not breached the law.

The alleged incidents occurred in 2015 when Mr Walker was a constable at the Broadbeach Police Station.
