YOO HOO TUVALU
Tuvalu’s athletes, children and community members are set to become baton bearers with the Queen’s Baton Relay arriving to their Pacific island home today.
Weightlifting is Tuvalu’s most popular Commonwealth Games sport, although national sporting federations also exist for basketball, volleyball, weightlifting, boxing and table tennis.
One popular local sport is kilikiti, which is similar to cricket and played on a pitch that doubles as Tuvalu’s airport.
With half of Tuvalu’s population packed into the main but still tiny island of Funafuti, hundreds of locals will be able to engage with the Queen’s Baton and share the dream of GC2018.
