Coast gun can’t put a finger on layoff

GOLD Coast Dolphins star Michael Neser is hoping to be back for the start of the Big Bash League next month after fracturing his finger.

Neser was forced to sit out of much of Queensland’s thrilling Sheffield Shield draw against Western Australia after suffering the injury to the ring finger on his right hand early in the match.

The 27-year-old was still waiting for further medical advice about his likely time on the sidelines when contacted by the Bulletin late yesterday.

“I was just bowling and the ball got hit back at me and hit the tip of my finger,” Neser explained.

“It dislocated it and there was a small break in the joint.”

At the least, Neser is expected to miss the Bulls’ Sheffield Shield clash with South Australia in Cairns starting on Sunday.

That would be a key blow after he single-handedly ripped Tasmania apart with figures of 6-57 this month.

As well as being a pillar in Queensland’s four-day and 50over sides, the swing bowling all-rounder has long been a fixture in the Adelaide Strikers’ BBL line-up.

The Strikers begin their campaign at home against the Thunder on December 22.
