Big change coming in local bowls
IN a big coup for Queensland bowls, four-time international bowler of the year Aron Sherriff is leaving NSW and joining Helensvale.
He will be eligible to play for the Maroons in next year’s Australian Sides titles.
News of Sherriff’s impending arrival is timely given the increasing push for Commonwealth Games places.
New Zealand’s world singles champion Shannon McIlroy is among the internationals who will use next year’s Queensland Premier League as preparation for the Gold Coast Games.
Other interstate players likely to play early next year include Jackaroos Aaron Wilson and Ben Twist and their coach Steve Glasson.
Meanwhile, Queensland selectors have named new combos for February’s Test series against NSW at Raymond Terrace. Among the rookies are Broadbeach prospect Jessie Cottell and State fours winner Matthew Lucas and John Bain of Tweed Heads.
