Hatch grabs a Coast triple

- TOM BOSWELL

LINDSAY Hatch has celebrated a record-equalling performance at the Gold Coast Turf Club in what was a day to remember for the Toowoomba stable.

Hatch had three winners at Saturday’s meeting at Aquis Park through She Is Fierce (Class 4, 1800m), Mandela Dreaming (Ratings Band 0-60 Hcp, 1200m) and Grey Steyne (Class 2, 1400m).

He came within a nose of getting a record breaking fourth when Rhyme Nor Rhythm was edged out by the Les Kelly-trained Desmon’s Pride.

“I have done it once before but it’s very hard to do,” Hatch said of his successful meeting.

“You have got to take it when you can but I’m still trying to get over the last race.

“I was sure (Rhyme Nor Rhythm) won when they hit the line but then I had a look at the replay.

“He was in front a stride before the post and in front a stride after.”

Hatch – who also had Last Armageddon win at Toowoomba on Saturday – said he knew he had some solid contributors going in to the day but knows it takes more than form to win.

“You can have a heap of runners and on paper they all look great,” Hatch said.

“I have had six or eight runners previously and they have all been chances but I walked out kicking stones.”

Hatch’s apprentice jockey, Baylee Nothdurft, added to the stable’s weekend feats by winning five races at Toowoomba on the same day.

“It was a big day for the stable,” Hatch said.

“Baylee ... is a promising kid and works hard.”
