Pressure over recall
EXPLODING Aldi pressure cookers have caused serious burns to six people’s eyes, faces and upper bodies, prompting consumer group Choice to push for a new product recall system.
The Crofton Chef’s Collection pressure cooker, sold exclusively at Aldi stores in June and July, cooks food quickly by regulating the pressure and boiling contents at temperatures of more than 100C.
But less than six weeks after it went on sale, Aldi issued a national recall after two owners were hospitalised with burns. So far, six people have been injured. Fewer than a quarter of the 8405 pressure cookers have been returned.
