Hundreds need help
GOLD Coast families on struggle street have been donated 42 tonnes of food by one charity alone this year with fears the crisis will escalate in the days before Christmas.
Reedy Creek-based support agency Plus One Care believe this year’s total food donations will exceed 50,000kg.
The charity’s executive director Jim Anderson said the increase in both homelessness and domestic violence on the Glitter Strip meant they were helping more than 400 families a month.
He said they were helping a diverse range of people including small business owners who had been forced to close.
“There is an ocean of human need out there and people are coming to us from all sorts of background,” he said.
