LEGACY LIVES ON
THE passing of Lady Flo Bjelke-Petersen is the end of an era for Queensland.
As a Senator for Queensland, the woman behind our most famous pumpkin scone recipe and the wife of long-serving premier Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen, Lady Flo was part of our political and cultural landscape for decades.
Giving her final interview earlier this month, to mark the 30th anniversary of Sir Joh’s removal from office, the 97-year-old spoke happily of her life in a Kingaroy retirement village, her husband’s legacy and her hopes of reaching the age of 100.
“When you get to the end of your life you need to have a good, firm resting place,” she said
Her legacy has left an indelible mark on her state and she will be missed.
