Dog videos a wave of joy

MEET River Dog.

Aptly named, this fouryear-old English Staffy has no issues with strapping on a GoPro and heading into the surf.

It doesn’t even matter that she doesn’t swim well, says owner Craig Voyce of Currumbin, adding the GoPro records some nice underwater footage when the waves rush over her.

“I’ve had the GoPro for about 12 months ... and bought a different attachment to put on the canoe and took shots of whales,” he said.

“I found a dog harness (online) and bought it to try out.”

Mr Voyce said he and his wife, Julie, took River Dog out with the GoPro about three times a week.

An energetic pup, River Dog even records some of her runs to the dog-friendly beach at Palm Beach, which is 10km there and 10km back.

“She has a play on the beach, she runs the whole way with a ball in her mouth, or even a 5ft stick,” Mr Voyce said.

“Her whole focus on life is a stick or a ball; she doesn’t care (about the GoPro).”

Sometimes River Dog plays with the other dogs, giving him a dog’s-eye view of the world.

Mr Voyce said she also loved to head out on the stand-up paddle board. “She loves it.”

“She sits there on the paddle board as we go for miles and miles and jumps off ... just doing what dogs do,” he said.
