Milligan to stun derby rivals with comeback

-

MELBOURNE Victory midfielder Mark Milligan is set to make a surprise return in tomorrow night’s A-League derby at AAMI Park.

But Victory vice-captain Leigh Broxham appears likely to be sidelined after failing to complete training at Gosch’s Paddock yesterday.

Milligan injured a hamstring against Adelaide in Round 10, an injury that typically takes three weeks to heal.

But the Socceroos vice-captain took part in the entire session yesterday, giving rise to hopes he can feature tomorrow night, just 15 days after being struck down.

Milligan would have to get through today’s session to be declared fit. And then whether he starts or comes off the bench remains to be seen.

MILLSY, TODAY IS HIS FIRST SESSION, SO KEVIN IS GOING TO HAVE TO MAKE A DECISION. BUT I AM FIT TO START ... MATIAS SANCHEZ

The man who would likely make way for Milligan in midfield would be Argentine Matias Sanchez.

But Sanchez said after training he was in the dark as his role against Melbourne City.

“I wish

Sanchez said.

“But Millsy (Milligan), today is his first session, so (coach) Kevin (Muscat) is going to have to make a decision. But I am fit to start.’’

Broxham came off at halftime of the 2-1 away win against Brisbane Roar on Sunday after coming down with a migraine. He was replaced by youngster Stefan Nigro.

But the utility was reduced to light running drills yesterday and did not take part in drills with the rest of his teammates. Broxham has already missed one game this season with a hamstring complaint.

Sanchez has started in Victory’s past two wins. In four starting appearances this season, the Argentine has not experienced defeat.

Sanchez, 30, said he was slowly becoming accustomed to the A-League.

“When you play more games, you have a little more confidence,” he said. I can (start),”
