SURFING Queensland has announced the famous Burleigh Pro will return in 2018 in a big boost for local surfers.

Some of the best surfers in the world will converge on the Gold Coast to compete in the World Surf League Qualifying Series event, to begin on January 25.

The competitio­n will offer up 1000 QS points for surfers who hope to secure their place on the following Championsh­ip Tour.

Surfing Queensland CEO Adam Yates estimated over nine countries to be represente­d in the men’s and women’s fields.

“The Burleigh Pro has always been one of the biggest and most exciting events on the Surfing Queensland calendar,” Yates said.

“Next year we have made some major changes to the site precinct as well as adding lots of entertainm­ent that will really benefit both the competitor­s and the wider community.”
