Byrne, Dare a perfect fit

- – MARK OBERHARDT

IT’S no wonder trainer Matt Dunn is keen to book Jim Byrne to ride Perfect Dare in a second crack at the Magic Millions Cup.

Dunn is convinced Perfect Dare loves to be ridden by Byrne and statistics back that up.

Byrne and Perfect Dare continued their great partnership when the gelding gave him the third leg of treble at the Gold Coast on Saturday after wins on Raido and Feltre.

Perfect Dare has won five times and four of those have been under Byrne who also rode him when he was a nose second to Testashadow in the Magic Millions Cup (1400m) earlier this year.

“Some horses go best for certain jockeys and Perfect Dare is one of those,” Dunn said.

Byrne will also be in demand from premier Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan after they combined for their 49th winner for 2017 with Raido.

Gollan said Raido had been on his last chance before he won the Benchmark 75 (900m) in the last stride.
