Cam looks for elusive title repeat

- MICHAEL CARAYANNIS

CAMERON Smith’s rugby league “bucket list” is still in full swing.

He might already hold the record for most games in the NRL and have skippered Melbourne, Queensland and Australia to great success but Smith is eyeing the next challenge.

“There is no team that’s gone back-to-back with premierships (for a while),” the Storm captain said.

“That’s on the radar. It is achievable. It’s extremely hard to do. I’ve been in the situation before.”

Melbourne’s premiership win against North Queensland was the second legitimate title for Smith after the club was stripped of two crowns for cheating the NRL salary cap in 2007 and 2009.

The year after their 2012 grand final win over Canterbury, the Storm could only reach the semi-finals.

No team has won back-toback premierships since the Broncos in 1992-93.

Turning 35 midway through next season, this may be Smith’s final opportunity to put the exclamation point on his glittering career.

“That would be pretty special to be part of a team that could win back-to-back premierships,” Smith said.
