Battlelines drawn in Coast’s bid for Ashes
LOCAL Aussies and Poms are settling into preparations for the inaugural Mini-Ashes Challenge cricket match on the Gold Coast next month.
Teams representing Australia and England, comprising players from local Kookaburra Cup clubs, have been finalised for the inaugural “international” at Bill Pippen Oval at Robina on Sunday, January 28.
One of the driving forces is Burleigh’s English captaincoach Simon Belston who has managed to put together a decent crew to don the special Poms outfit for the 40-overs affair.
“Everything’s coming together nicely and it’s going to be a fantastic day,” Belston said.
“We’re hoping to run this match every year and any funds raised will go to junior players on the Gold Coast.”
Teams will wear specially designed outfits for the occasion at the home ground of the Gold Coast Dolphins.
