Shooters Union fires back at claims

- Letters, P20

THE SHOOTERS Union has taken aim at Member for Surfers Paradise John-Paul Langbroek over comments to the Bulletin an increase in registered firearms would lead to more violence in the community.

Union President Graham Park accused the LNP of “courting the firearm lobby” during the state election campaign before turning their back on legitimate firearm owners.

“... (The LNP) have flipflopped on the issue, attacking registered firearm owners by suggesting that they, rather than criminals, are responsible for gun violence,” he said.

Mr Park said Mr Langbroek’s comments were “offensive to the growing number of legitimate firearm owners”.

Mr Langbroek said he was confident his views “represented the majority of his electorate and the Gold Coast in general”.

“The vicious attacks of the keyboard warriors of the gun lobby won’t silence me,” he said.
