Spotify sued for $US1.6bn
MUSIC sharing platform Spotify has been hit with a $US1.6 billion ($A2.2 billion) lawsuit from Wixen Music Publishing, which handles titles by Tom Petty, Neil Young, Steely Dan’s Donald Fagen, Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo, Stevie Nicks, and others.
The suit, which alleges that Spotify is using thousands of songs without the appropriate licence, was filed on December 29 in a federal court in California.
It is seeking damages worth at least $US1.6 billion as well as injunctive relief, Variety reports.
