Crouch saves man’s life

- ALEXANDRIA UTTING CHIEF CRIME REPORTER

GOLD Coast father Trent Walker would have been dead if he was not crouching down when a gunshot was fired through the front door of his Carrara home.

His wife, Amanda Walker, yesterday said her husband was trying to shut the door when he was shot in the arm after a man and woman confronted him at their Plateau Cres home about 4pm on Monday.

Their seven-year-old son was also in the house at the time. The pair are believed to have seen a green car arriving on their home CCTV.

“I said to my husband shut the bloody door,” Ms Walker told Nine News. “He was down, crouched. Had he been standing up he wouldn’t be here.”

Police yesterday said they believed the attack was targeted but the victim and the offenders were not known to each other.

“The actions of the offenders would suggest it was their intention to attend that particular address, but at this stage there are no known connections between the victim and the offenders,” Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Nicola Brown said.

Police say a green car carrying four people pulled up at the address before a man and a woman got out and went to the front door of the family home.

The woman is believed to have been carrying a metal bar.

“Two of those occupants, a male and female, got out of that vehicle and approached the door,” Detective Acting Sen-Sgt Brown said.

“A male offender has produced a firearm and shot through the (closed) front door of the dwelling.

“Unfortunately, that’s injured the 44-year-old occupant in the left forearm and he’s received surgery for those injuries.”

Initial reports indicate the gun used was a shotgun but ballistics are still conducting testing.

The four people are still at large.

Police are investigating whether the car the offenders got out of was at the Carrara address earlier on Monday.

“We are keeping an open mind about the sex of those people but at this stage we believe it is three males and a female,’ Detective Acting SenSgt Brown said.

“It was initially described as a hatchback but we are not discounting it could be a van or a station wagon.

“It’s described as a shiny green with mag wheels and was last seen driving down Plateau Cres toward Metricon Stadium.”
