Probe strikes President
INVESTIGATORS are in talks with Donald Trump’s lawyers as they seek to interview the US President as part of a probe into potential co-ordination between Russia and the Trump campaign.
An unnamed person close to Mr Trump told The Washington Post the interview was likely to take place in the next few weeks.
The issue of an interview has come up in recent discussions between a prosecution team led by Robert Mueller and Trump lawyers, but no details have been worked out, including the scope of questions the President would agree to answer if an interview were to take place.
Another source said it was not surprising investigators would be interested in speaking with Mr Trump as part of the investigation that began last year
Mr Mueller has for months led a team of prosecutors and agents investigating whether Russia and Mr Trump’s Republican campaign co-ordinated to influence the outcome of the 2016 presidential election.
It is also looking at whether Mr Trump (pictured) worked to obstruct an FBI investigation into his aides.
The President has previously said there was “no collusion” and “no crime.” “We have been very open,” he said.
