GARY’S DOGGIE PADDLE JUST PAW-FECT

-

MOVE over Margot Robbie, there’s a new Gold Coast thespian in town and it’s only a matter of time before Gary gets his paw on the Hollywood walk of fame.

The Burleigh Waters canine regularly shocks swimmers at the Currumbin dog beach with his theatrical doggie paddle.

Although it looks like he’s getting himself in over his head, he’s in fact walking on the bottom on his hind legs and thrashing around in shallow water.

Owner Ellen Thomas sent in a hilarious video of Gary’s antics to a competition run by petsitting website Pawshake and it was announced this week he came second out of almost 100 national entries.

“Gary is a massive weirdo,” Ms Thomas said.

“He does this quite often and people panic when they see it happen. On a number of occasions people have tried to jump into the water to ‘save’ him.

“I’d love to be able to quit my job and live off Gary if he became Insta famous.”

The mutt is allegedly a labradoodle but the Thomas family have become increasingly sceptical of his pedigree as the 11-month-old grows older.

Pawshake community manager Jessica Tanner said it was her job to trawl through the entries to help find the winner.

She said Pawshake had become increasingly popular on the Gold Coast, linking up owners with doggie daycare providers, petsitters and dog walkers.

“I loved Gary so much. he’s all paws and I’ve never seen a dog paddle like that before,” Ms Tanner said.

“A lot of people use our site when they’re holidaying in a place like the Gold Coast and want to go sightseeing without their animal.”

Gary’s Instagram account @a_dog_named_gary has more than 1000 followers and Ms Thomas, an executive assistant, is hopeful it could go viral after his competition success.
