Fined for ciggie fires
A WOMAN has copped a $2860 fine after her discarded cigarette started three separate blazes spanning several acres near Nimbin.
Emergency services were called to blazes at Arkinstall Road, Tuntable Creek, at 11am on Tuesday.
A 46-year-old woman found on the property was later interviewed by police at Nimbin police station.
Police will allege the woman was walking through the property to get to Nimbin and threw away her cigarette without extinguishing it.
The woman was given a $660 fine for discarding the cigarette and a $2200 fine for starting a fire on another person’s property.
