KATELYN IN A WHIRL OVER SUMMER SPORT EXTRAVAGANZA

- KATE PARASKEVOS

SPORTS-MAD Katelyn Taylor is a little champion in the making.

The six-year-old can usually be found on the golf course hitting rounds with her siblings or dancing up a storm. Katelyn was in her element yesterday while visiting Robina Town Centre’s Summer Camp, getting her body moving before heading home to Bundaberg tomorrow.

Mum Kathryn said her daughter “absolutely loved” all the free sporting activities.

“It’s such a fantastic idea, she’s been begging me to go back before we leave,” she said. “I wish there was something free like this where we live, it’s just great, she had a ball.”

Some of the free workshops include rock climbing, rugby, soccer, netball, golf, athletics, basketball, cricket, hockey, softball, badminton, volleyball and even a mini Olympics and Ninja Warriorstyle workshop.

Hannah Blaine from GeckoSports said the program was all about getting kids off their phones and computers and into sports.

“With kids being on devices a lot, we want to see them get outside, playing with their friends instead of being stuck inside,” she said.

“Whether your little ones are into running, jumping, climbing, throwing, catching or swinging, there are endless opportunities to get their bodies moving.”

The free activities will run at The Promenade at Robina Town Centre from 10am to 3pm daily until January 21. No bookings are required.
