SUMMARY

A steep rising SSE swell under strong southerly winds sees stormy 6 to 8ft plus conditions across exposed northern NSW breaks by this afternoon, wrapping at 3 to 4ft plus across exposed Queensland breaks and smaller inside the points and bays. Powerful SSE groundswel­l hangs in at similar levels on Wednesday before steadily abating throughout Thursday and Friday. Expect strong SSW to SSE winds Tuesday and Wednesday, tending to a pattern of lighter early offshore winds tending to seabreezes from Thursday.

TODAY

SSE swell up to 4 to 6ft+ northern NSW south facing beaches, building to 5 to 8ft+ during the afternoon. Grading to 3 to 4ft exposed QLD beaches and to a smaller 1 to 2ft+ inside the points and bays, bigger later. WIND: Early SSW tending SSE 20 to 30 knots during the afternoon.

TOMORROW

Mid period SSE groundswel­l. Sets ranging from 6 to 8ft+ across northern NSW south facing breaks, wrapping at 4 to 6ft across southern Queensland exposed beaches and wrapping in at anywhere from 3 to 4ft+ inside the points and bays WIND: Early

SW to SSW tending SSE/ SE 15 to 20 knots during the afternoon.

THURSDAY

Easing SSE swell. Ranging from 5 to 8ft northern NSW south facing beaches, easing to 3 to 6ft during the afternoon. Wrapping at 2 to 5ft across southern Queensland with size depending on exposure. WIND: Light WSW to SSW early tending SE to ESE to 5 to 15 knots during the afternoon.

FRIDAY

Easing SSE swell up to 3 to 4ft+ northern NSW south facing beaches, easing during the afternoon. Wrapping at 2 to 3ft+ across southern Queensland with size depending on exposure WIND: Light WSW to SSW 5 to 10 knots, tending ESE to 5 to 15 knots during the afternoon.
