KIDMAN: WE’RE NOT FINISHED YET
AN EMOTIONAL Nicole Kidman paid tribute to her fellow “trailblazing” female actors as she collected her first Screen Actors Guild Award yesterday, saying 20 years ago she would have been considered “washed up”.
She took home the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Miniseries or Telemovie for her role as a domestically abused woman in the hit series, Big Little Lies.
Kidman, 50, who was also battling the flu and said she was currently playing a “raw character she was having trouble shedding”, gave a passionate speech at the Los Angeles event.
“To receive this at this stage of my life is extraordinary, and at this time in the industry when these things are going on, and for this role,” she said.
She paid tribute to fellow nominees Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange, as well as others including Meryl Streep and Judi Dench for their longevity.
“I want to thank you all for your trailblazing performances you’ve given over your career, and how wonderful it is that our careers today can go beyond 40 years old, because 20 years ago we were pretty washed up by this stage in our lives. That’s not the case now ... we are potent and powerful and viable.”
Gold Coast actor Margot Robbie was pipped for the Outstanding Female Actor gong by Frances McDormand for her role in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
