KIT FITTING SAYS IT ALL REALLY IS TAKING PLACE

- MARK PETERS

ONE of the most highlyanticipated milestones for our volunteers and staff was reached this week with the GC2018 Uniform and Accreditation Centre operationalised.

The centre at West Burleigh is where more than 15,000 Games Shapers will be fitted with their uniform and receive their Gamestime accreditation over the coming weeks.

Fifty uniform and accreditation volunteers have started their roles with hundreds of GOLDOC workforce among the first to be processed with their eye-catching Hard Yakka kit.

I know from experience that receiving accreditation and being fitted out for the clothing is one of the most exciting parts of any Games preparation.

It is one of the first processes that says the Games are about to happen.

You may have noticed over the past few weeks, the focus turning from our seven years of detailed planning and bricks and mortar preparations to sport.

As individuals and teams contest national selection and names are announced, you can feel a lot of the white noise drop away and attention, quite rightly, landing at the feet of the athletes.

On these pages you’ll read about the great male Kenyan marathoners heading to the Gold Coast to challenge our very own Commonwealth Games champion, Michael Shelley, while Jess’ Trengove and Lisa Weightman are readying themselves for the women’s 42km event.

You’ll read about why Queensland boxer Liam Wilson has a score to settle with an English nemesis

THE BEST ATHLETES IN THE WORLD ARE COMING, SO MAKE SURE YOU’RE THERE TOO

while rhythmic gymnast Danielle Prince is hoping to create history if selected as the first Australian gymnast to compete at three Commonwealth Games.

And there are a number of selections still to come in swimming, track and field, gymnastics and many more sports.

The best athletes in the world are coming, so make sure you’re there too by heading to gc2018.com/ tickets

Together we will Share the Dream.
