WEEKLY HOUSE RENTAL PRICES

-

RENTERS have been hit by a surge in prices, with new CoreLogic figures showing average rents soared 3.5 per cent on the Gold Coast last year.

The Coast’s median weekly rent is now $485 a week – higher than most parts of Brisbane.

The 3.5 per cent jump was also by far the biggest in the state, with most parts of Queensland recording increases of only 0.5-1.5 per cent.

The data showed the median weekly rent held relatively steady during 2015 and 2016 varying between 0.1-1.6 per cent, before the surge began in April, 2017. Most expensive suburbs

Harcourts Coastal property manager Brent Martens said tight supply was the primary cause of the price jump.

“People have had to lift their budget from 12 to 24 months ago.
