Tiny 4sq m space goes to auction

- PHIL BARTSCH

IT’S not so much a slice but a slither of paradise.

Slightly bigger than a kingsize bed and less than a third of the size of most car parking spaces, the 4sq m space in the heart of Surfers Paradise is possibly Australia’s smallest ever commercial property listing.

Fitted out as a cool room, the tiny piece of real estate in a three-storey building at 15 Cavill actually spans two lots – each measuring only 2sq m.

It is being taken to auction on behalf of the mortgagee-inpossession by Ray White Commercial’s Simon Robertson, who already has fielded keen interest in the unusual holding.

“I’ve been marketing it as 41sq ft because it sounds better than 4sq m,” Mr Robertson joked.

“It’s a bit of a funny one. I’ve been in the commercial property game about 15 years and never come across anything as small as this.”

Even so, he is expecting some spirited bidding when the property goes under the hammer on February 22.

“I’ve got quite a few people interested, including owners in the same complex and a local business owner, who needs a cool room for their restaurant,” Mr Robertson said.

The cool room, which has not been used for some time, is on the ground floor near the rear of the 24-lot building on the corner of Orchid Ave.

Tenants in the prominently positioned 1966 building include Ray White Projects, a convenience store, a tattoo parlour and food outlets.
