BARISTA BREWS MILD ROAST FOR COFFEE SNOBS

- SALLY COATES

A GOLD Coast cafe owner has revealed the weirdest, funniest and downright confusing coffee orders she’s had at her shop.

Jessica Winters, owner at Double Barrel Kitchen at Mermaid Waters, said people “wouldn’t believe” the requests they fielded.

“People are crazy about their milk – just recently I’ve had a half strength cappuccino with half almond milk, half coconut milk,” she said.

“I’ve had a half strength decaf latte on half soy milk, half almond milk.

“Half full cream, half skim milk is another one.’’

She said temperature was another hot topic.

“Extra hot long black is a common one ... it’s as hot as the machine is going to get it,” she said.

“Maybe put it in the microwave if you want it really hot.

“Someone recently said ‘Can I have a latte at 55 degrees’?”

Vegans were known to cause problems from time to time too.

“One we hear sometimes is ‘Um, I’m vegan, I need to see what’s in your almond milk’ – um almonds,” Ms Winters recounted.

“Or ‘I’m vegan so I need my coffee on soy, with honey please,’ – so you’re not really vegan are you?”

In some instances, Ms Winters said it seemed people didn’t actually know what their coffee was.

“People will ask for a latte with no froth, which is a flat white,” she said.

“Or some people ask for a cappuccino with no chocolate, so a latte.

“I could go on for days, it’s a daily occurrence, but it gives us a giggle so we don’t mind.”
