Dunes will be restored

-

THE Gold Coast City Council has confirmed it will spend more than $40,000 on rejuvenation works at Greenmount Beach.

Locals have this week been up in arms about excavators on the sand at the popular southern Gold Coast beach, moving sand from Greenmount to Coolangatta.

The sand will be used for volleyball warm-up courts for the Commonwealth Games.

A council spokesman said where vegetation has been disturbed, dune restoration/replanting works would be undertaken.

“Similar re-profiling and replanting works were undertaken by the City in 2005 as part of its beach management responsibilities,” he said. “The cost of this project is around $48,000.”
