THE Seahawks’ quest for immediate QBL respect has opened the door for Gold Coast’s older generation of basketballers.

Ahead of April’s start of the state league competition, North Gold Coast is exploring the retired market in order to hit the ground running in their first season since promotion. Coach Ric Lawyer has quietly assembled a talented squad but admits with spots still to fill, there may be an opening for yesterday’s heroes.

“We still have spots few players,” he said.

“We’re looking locally and have put our feelers out there.

“There are a few guys playing on the Gold Coast who aren’t playing any more who for a we could bring out of retirement.”

Lawyer admitted his club must dispel any doubts about their promotion from the SBL.

The Seahawks dominated the third-tier competition in recent seasons but know it’s a big step up to the QBL.

“A lot of people think we may be weak but we’ll be ready,” Lawyer said. “A lot of the guys have played in this league before and those who haven’t can hold their own.”

Regardless, the ambition won’t change.

“We’re pushing to be up in the top four,” Lawyer declared.

“Our goal hasn’t changed and we will have the personnel for it.”

The QBL season, featuring the Seahawks and Gold Coast counterparts the Rollers, tips off in mid April.
