No training no worries for Sally
SALLY Pearson says her Commonwealth Games title defence is in good shape despite missing key training sessions in the lead-up to the national titles over the weekend.
Pearson revealed she had missed “three or four really important sessions” as she battled a cold ahead of the selection trials at Carrara, but she was confident she would be fully fit for the world indoor championships in Birmingham in a fortnight.
Pearson won the 100m hurdles in 12.73sec on Saturday night to confirm her place at the Games.
And while she was disappointed with the time after being forced to wait for several minutes for a restart following another athlete’s disqualification for a false start, Pearson knows the main game is on the Coast in eight weeks’ time.
“I’m disappointed with the result but it has been a tough few weeks training, so I’m really proud that I got out here today and put on somewhat of a good show,” Pearson said.
“I’ve just missed a few sessions here and there with colds and interruptions and missed probably three or four really important sessions.”
Pearson won the world indoor title in 2012 off the back of a high hurdles world championship the year before in a campaign that proved a perfect lead-in to the London Olympics. And she’s hoping history can repeat as she charges towards a home Commonwealth Games she rates as one of the most important meets of her career.
