MY husband has parked at the Bruce Bishop Car Park for the last 13 years for work.

It was sad when I had to stop buying his monthly pass for Bruce Bishop last month as they were no longer selling them and had to buy it at the Paradise Centre. They are however selling weekly tickets, but at a higher rate.

We live out the back of Nerang so for him to get a bus, train or tram it would take him over 2.5 hours to get to work. He drops both of our kids off at two different schools on the way. Without this car park nobody will want to come to Surfers as public transport just doesn’t cover all areas.

My husband also needs his car at work so that he can go to his other shops on the Gold Coast. The council should care more about the poor businesses who are going to have to close down because the sales are going to drop and not about how much money they can make.

I come in on the weekends to take the kids to Timezone and the beach and there are easily 500-plus cars parked in Bruce Bishop. Taking away a car park that is used 24-7 is insane.

My husband is also a guitarist and uses the car park when he plays at the Beergarden, Hardrock Cafe or Fiddlers Green, as there isn’t enough parking at that time of the night. TRUDY, NERANG

I TOTALLY agree with G J May’s letter (GCB, 17/2/18) regarding Barnaby Joyce’s affair.

Barnaby is being chastised by Malcolm Turnbull over his affair simply because he is the Prime Minister and it’s his job to justify his authority.

However these two men are the greatest of mates and Mr Turnbull knows that it would be political suicide to sack him, simply because without Barnaby’s huge following and being Leader of the National Party, the LNP would have no chance of winning the next Federal election, and Labor would claim victory.

Believe me, their so-called “fireworks meeting” would have consisted of a (mate-to-mate) chat over a glass of expensive “red”.

And as for Barnaby’s affair, the public need to mind their own business. KEN WADE, TWEED HEADS

REGARDING Barnaby Joyce’s affair, I’m sure most women would blame the female who lures men into their trap.

When a female knows a man is married and the father of four children she should run in the other direction. We all know what part of the anatomy a man’s brain is located in!

I know the man should know better but they are the weaker sex. It has been medically proven.

I also think the press have given this far too much publicity, it’s called overkill.

Every family must have their own stories about affairs and broken marriages. I have three sons who are in that box, I’ve had more daughter in laws than roast dinners. All very nice girls I may add. LOIS MCCULLOCH

MALCOLM Turnbull wants to introduce an act of parliament for all politicians not to have affairs with their staff on “moral grounds” similar to corporate Australia.

Mr Turnbull, you will find that corporate Australia did not make their decision on “moral grounds” but as a dollar business decision. Ask a national TV company and a national department store why

they do not allow intimate relations in the work place?

Politicians are voted by the people to govern for the benefit and lifestyle of all Australia, regardless of race, colour or creed. If “moral grounds” are not practiced in parliament according to the people’s definition of “moral” allow the people to be the judge and jury of their political representative at the ballot box. ANGELO, BIGGERA WATERS

WITH the present Queensland government incapable of running a reliable train service, what chance of them ever being able to run a state?

You have to feel sorry for those in the north when decisions concerning them are made to appease the Brisbane coffee shop greens.

How long to the next election? Unfortunately too long. ROD WATSON, SURFERS PARADISE

MAYOR Tom Tate finds it “astonishing” that 4000 retirees are moving to the Gold Coast each week, driving a $1 billion bonanza and welcomes “the money these people spend here”. (GCB, 16/2/18)

Hopefully it is still not too late to save Black Swan Lake but Tom, we love urban green space, our native wildlife in bushland settings and we vote. CHRIS, SURFERS PARADISE

WHAT total hypocrisy. The same people attacking Barnaby Joyce who argued we must keep out of consenting adults’ bedrooms in their support of homosexual marriage are now guilty of heterosexual discriminations because it suits their political agenda. G J MAY, FORESTDALE
