A SPRAWLING Gold Coast mega-mansion has been snapped up for $8.8 million in a secret sale.

It took less than one week for entrepreneurial businessman David Baird and his wife Marion’s property at 31-33 The Corso, Isle of Capri, to be sold to an Asian buyer.

“Following the sale of this house we will be moving to Paradise Waters,” Mr Baird, a retired corporate executive, said.

“We didn’t have the house on the market but it sold within a week. It was a very quick sale and we are happy with the outcome.”

The Bairds are no strangers to Gold Coast property.

They sold their previous Isle of Capri home in 2016 for $11 million before making a $7 million dash back into the market at Paradise Waters.

Mr Baird, before moving to the Gold Coast from Melbourne in 1986, was the Australian head of US company Textron.

He and son Matthew set up telco Cellular One and sold it to AAPT for more than $20 million.

Ray White Broadbeach agent Sam Guo handled the Baird’s latest sale and said a quick interstate seal the deal.

“I had a recent trip to Melbourne and Sydney and was visiting some clients,” he said.

“I had someone introduce me to some of their friends who were looking for high-end property on the Gold Coast.

“The buyers flew from Melbourne, inspected the property, had lunch with me and made an offer straight away.”

He said there were still cashed-up Chinese buyers hunting for prestige property on the Coast despite a decline of activity recently.

Mr Guo said the Isle of Capri property was in one of the best positions on the Gold Coast. “It faces due north and it has a water view to Adam’s Basin,” he said.

“This is arguably the position in this pocket.

“It’s a beautiful and such a solid suspended concrete home with immense style and of grand proportions.” trip helped best
