AMBULANCES AT SCHOOL A TERRIBLE SIGHT

-

THE Gold Coast community is today reeling from the shocking news out of Saint Stephen’s College.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones of the affected boys and more widely with the entire school community.

The last thing parents should ever see is a fleet of ambulances parked outside their child’s school. It is a sight that would have sent a shiver down the spine of all parents who witnessed it yesterday.

The boys’ welfare is the primary concern for now.

We can be reassured they are receiving the best medical care possible at Gold Coast University Hospital.

In the coming days and weeks, this incident will force deeper considerations about the proliferation of potentially harmful drugs in our community.

Many deadly drugs are freely available for purchase online, even if they are banned from pharmacies or even by prescription.

It is another disturbing aspect of the cyber world, which in so many ways has proved all but impossible to properly monitor, let alone regulate or police.

At the time of publishing, it remained unclear how these drugs got into the hands of the boys.

But that will need to be thoroughly interrogated to give administrators some hope of preventing such a dreadful incident from happening again.
