EVIE LOSES BATTLE

- JESSICA ELDER jessica.elder@news.com.au

LITTLE Evie Ryan, rushed to hospital after being found floating in a Gold Coast pool on Saturday, has died.

Her mother, Kelly Ryan, wrote of the heartbreak of losing the two-year-old: “Beautiful Boo Boo had grown her angel wings”.

Almost $8000 has already been raised to help the family.

A GOLD Coast family has been left shattered after a two-year-old girl lost her fight for life four days after she was found floating in a backyard pool.

The horror discovery was made at a Nerang home on Saturday sparking a massive emergency response.

Critical care paramedics rushed to the Hoban Ct home where they worked on the two-year-old for half an hour.

She was then rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition, before being transferred to a specialist unit at the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital in Brisbane.

Tragically the toddler lost her fight, passing away in hospital on Wednesday.

Mum, Kelly Ryan, posted her heartbreak to Facebook on Wednesday evening, “Today our Beautiful Beautiful Boo Boo Evie grew her angel wings! She fought so hard so hard to stay with us. She was surrounded by all the love in the world from her family with endless cuddles.

Our hearts are completely shattered and will never be the same. Luke, Hudson, Ruby, Evie and I want to thank ALL of you for your continuous love and support throughout this horrific time. I honestly have no words with what we have received from so many people”.

The post attracted close to 300 comments, with friends and family offering support and condolences.

A fundraiser has been set up to help the family, with almost $8000 of the $10,000 target raised in just one day.

Ms Ryan kept loved ones updated throughout the devastating four-day bedside vigil.

A community Facebook page, “Wiggles for Evie”, was created two days after she was found unresponsive.

Friends of the family used the page to reach out to the popular kids’ group and ask them to visit young Evie in hospital.

Just 24 hours later Captain Feathersword from the Wiggles visited the hospital, while other members of the group filmed a special video of Evie’s favourite song.

Members of another childrens’ group, Hi5, also recorded a special message for Evie.

The heartbreaking death comes just days after a 42year-old Runaway Bay man drowned in a backyard pool at a party.

Since the beginning of 2018 there have been 17 drownings, or near drownings on the Gold Coast.

Little Evie is expected to be farewelled at a private funeral service in the coming weeks.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
