IF I CAN MAKE IT HAIR, I’LL MAKE IT ANYWHERE

- EMILY SELLECK

A REEDY Creek hairdresser has just returned from a whirlwind eight days styling the locks of worldfamous models and celebrities at New York Fashion Week.

Hayley Kidson usually tends to the tresses of everyday Gold Coasters but was picked to join the Wella team styling for Aussie labels Zimmerman and Alice McCall.

“This was the third time I’ve been chosen to go over for New York Fashion Week,” she said.

“In the beginning it was submission-based and I had to fly to Sydney to do different workshops but now I get invited back. An email pops up in my inbox saying ‘you’re coming to New York’.

“It’s the best feeling.”

The Minogue Hairdressing boss said she travelled with a large group of Aussies which included 15 other hair style assistants.

“As a hairdresser it’s the absolute pinnacle,” she said. “Everyone wants to work at New York Fashion Week.

“We worked on about 20 models for Alice McCall and 36 for Zimmerman. A lot of them were international models, some were Victoria’s Secret models ... I got to prep Devon Windsor.”

Ms Kidson said she also had a front row seat at the Zimmerman show.

“The production for that show would have been in the millions (and) we saw so many celebrities like Katie Holmes and Brittany Snow.”
