“They are closing the car park so we are advising our clients and staff about another way to access the gym. We are business as usual here. Our group fitness classes won’t be running but there is only so much preparation we can do.” idea what it is really going to be like,” he said. “It isn’t like we can freeze memberships while the Games are on because it is all hooked up on a direct debit system. It’s going to be a difficult two weeks for our clients.”

Mr Metcalf said he was advising staff to stay home if travel was impossible.

“It’s hard to tell them that because they are casual and rely on their shifts,” he said.

“For businesses like us, it’s not very fair.” COMMONWEALTH Games athletes could be air dropped into events by helicopters if they’re running late according to GOLDOC CEO Mark Peters.

“Absolutely, why would be want an athlete to miss an event,” Mr Peters said yesterday at the launch of the GC2018 online Journey Planner for spectators gearing up for the games.

“Every bit of planning we do is to make sure the athlete is at the event.”

“There’s been discussions around that but at the end of the day the whole plan is to make sure there is a plan B and a plan C”

He said athletes were familiar with travelling to games events so helicopter flights might not be necessary.
