Champion’s finest hour yet to come
SHE’S a three-time Commonwealth Games champion and dual Olympic gold medallist but winning a title on the Gold Coast could rank as Valerie Adams’ greatest achievement.
Already an undisputed star of track and field, Adams will write a new chapter on the Gold Coast when she com- petes in the shot put just six months after giving birth to her first child.
Life as a mother to daughter Kimoana has changed Adams’ perspective but has done little to douse her competitive fire.
“Each Games is a different journey, it’s a different time in my life, it’s a different atmosphere and different culture,” Adams said.
“This is probably the most challenging one because of having a baby four months ago and then trying to make a comeback this quickly into competition is not an easy feat but it’s a challenge I’m very willing to taking on.”
Medals are nothing new for Adams, who has four world titles to go with her three Commonwealth Games wins and two Olympic golds. But a win on the Gold Coast would be “immensely” special.
“It would be a dream come true for me,” she said.
Adams will share the stage with Sally Pearson on April 13 when both will go for gold in a “super final” session at a Carrara Stadium set to be packed with Australian and New Zealand fans.
