‘Ice’ man hits rock bottom

- LEA EMERY

A ROUTINE traffic stop became a pain in the bottom for a Currumbin man who was allegedly found with drugs in an unusual hiding place.

Conrad Burton was found with 16g of ice “secreted in his anus” during a traffic stop on the Gold Coast Highway at Miami, a court has heard.

Burton, 31, was denied bail in the Southport Magistrates Court yesterday where he faces multiple charges including possession of dangerous drugs, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, burglary and possessing stolen property.

Burton was allegedly stopped by police on the Gold Coast Highway at Miami at about 11.30pm on Tuesday.

Police searched Burton and allegedly found 16g of methamphetamine “secreted in his anus” in a plastic bag.

Burton was also driving a stolen white Toyota Hilux at the time. Camping equipment, including a fire extinguisher, were also taken when the ute was stolen. The goods were allegedly found in back of the ute.

Burton was allegedly caught on CCTV driving the car in early August last year.

Burton was also wanted on an arrest warrant for an alleged burglary in August last year.

Defence lawyer Bettina Webb, of Howden Saggers Lawyers, said Burton would be willing to report regularly to Palm Beach police station and submit to regular drug testing.

Magistrate Andrew Sinclair said he was concerned with how much of the drug Burton had on him and refused bail.

The matter was adjourned to March 27.
