Davies slides into Porsche for GT Series Asia

- CONNOR O’BRIEN @obrien_GCB

GOLD Coast driver Shae Davies will take his career abroad with a challenge for the Blancpain GT Series Asia championship.

Davies will steer a Porsche 911 GT3 R for Craft-Bamboo Racing, teaming up with Thai driver Sandy Stuvik. He will balance his Asian commitments – taking him to iconic circuits in Malaysia, Thailand, Japan and China – with racing for Paul Morris Motorsport in second-tier Supercars series Super2.

Davies finished eighth, fourth and 21st in three races at Adelaide last weekend and has not given up on his dream of returning to the main Supercars grid, having had a stint for Erebus Motorsport two years ago.

However, the GT opportunity was too good to ignore.

“I believe the No.911 combination of Sandy and myself will turn some heads in the early stages of the season and hopefully launch a championship challenge,” Davies said.

“The car has some great speed and I’m looking forward to maximising that, starting off straightaway in Sepang.”

Davies, who turns 28 today, secured the drive after impressing Craft-Bamboo Racing team director Darryl O’Young at a test day in January.

His teammate Stuvik brings plenty of top-level experience.

The Thai driver won the Euroformula Open and Spanish Formula 3 titles in 2014 before competing in Formula One feeder series GP3.

The GT Series Asia championship series opener in Sepang, Malaysia, will be contested on April 14-15.
