IT’S like a sports bar, but instead of screening the Titans home games or other sporting events, the form of competition is video games.
The Gold Coast has officially got it’s own eSports gaming bar were novices and professional gamers can take part in multiplayer competitions – or just hang out and have a drink.
Checkpoint eSports is one of only a few competitive gaming bars in the country.
Checkpoint eSports bar and gaming manager Dom Scott said there was nothing like it on the Coast.
“This (eSports) is a relatively new industry but it is gaining such momentum.
“We’ve decked it out with really high end equipment like $300 gaming chairs.
Owner Luke Mengler said there had been “a lot of hype” about the venue’s recent opening.
“Competitive gaming is one of the biggest industries in the world,” he said.
Checkpoint boasts 16 PC’s, a PlayStation4 and Xbox One section, retro console setups, a retro Arcade with pinball machines, a licenced bar, and live streaming eSports.
The first tournament will be Tekken 7 on Sunday at Surfers Paradise Boulevard at 12pm.
