CONCUSSED INGLIS ABUSED BY RACIST
SOUTH Sydney superstar Greg Inglis was allegedly called a “black dog” by a racist fan as he staggered off Penrith Stadium with concussion on Saturday.
The Bulletin also understands possibly the same culprit may have also racially abused Panthers star, Tyrone Peachey, another indigenous player.
Close friends claim Inglis was last night “distressed and understandably upset”. Penrith instantly issued Inglis a public apology.
Inglis told Rabbitohs general manager of football, Shane Richardson, of the abuse before the controversial matter was forwarded directly to the NRL integrity unit, who launched an immediate investigation.
Penrith general manager of football, Phil Gould, and Panthers group CEO Brian Fletcher are working closely with the NRL and Souths to identify the offender.
The NRL will implement punishment for the culprit although Souths and Penrith will lead calls for a life ban from attending any NRL game.
Inglis was walking off the field for a HIA test during the first half when allegedly abused.
The Queensland and Australian champion was booed and jeered by the crowd while on the ground receiving treatment and then again as he walked off. He did not return to the game and was suffering headaches still yesterday morning.
NRL chief executive Todd Greenberg has been made aware of the complaint.
